Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi Inaugurates ‘Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah,’ the World’s Largest Book Sale

Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) Chairperson, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, officially launched the highly anticipated ‘Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah,’ heralded as the largest book sale globally. The collaborative venture with Big Bad Wolf Ventures Sdn. Bhd. is set to captivate book enthusiasts at the Expo Centre Sharjah from December 19 to January 7.

The grand opening ceremony, attended by esteemed figures including Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, Andrew Yap, the co-founder and managing director of Big Bad Wolf, and Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of House of Wisdom, marked the commencement of this literary extravaganza. Sheikha Bodour, accompanied by notable personalities, undertook a tour of the exhibition, engaging with publishers and exhibitors while exploring the diverse array of publications on display.

Expressing the cultural significance of the event, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi remarked, “Strengthening cultural diversity and enriching Arab culture with knowledge and creative works from different cultures is a central mission of Sharjah’s cultural project as well as SBA’s directive.”

Under the patronage and guidance of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the event aligns with the emirate’s commitment to becoming a cultural focal point. Sheikha Bodour emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in promoting dialogue, understanding, and respect for shared human values.

Covering an expansive area of 4,000 sqm, ‘Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah’ boasts a collection of over 1 million books spanning diverse genres, including children’s literature, science, history, and philosophy. The event offers significant discounts of up to 85 percent, making literature accessible and affordable to a wide audience.

Established in 2019 through the partnership between SBA and Big Bad Wolf Ventures Sdn. Hd., the event reinforces SBA’s commitment to supporting publishers and providing a rich array of reading choices in Sharjah, the UAE, and the region.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, highlighted the event’s alignment with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, emphasizing Sharjah’s role as a nurturing ground for the Arab cultural project and a gateway to global cultures. He affirmed the exhibition’s contribution to elevating reading standards on regional and global scales, further enhancing Sharjah’s position as a global destination for Arab culture.
