The house of Givenchy has a new creative director. In an announcement today, June 15, Givenchy confirmed that designer Matthew M.Williams will officially be joint the storied label as its new creative director.
Not only is the 34-year-old designer known as the founder of luxury streetwear-inspired label 1017 ALYX9SM, but he is also known for being a key player in the luxury streetwear fashion scene. On June 16, Williams will start his duties as Givenchy’s creative director, marking it as the beginning of his career’s first major artistic director role. It is likely that the designer will present his debut collection for Givenchy in Paris in October, which is expected to further the label’s newfound inclination to streetwear.
In an Insagram post confirming the designer’s appointment, Williams stated: ‘I am extremely honored to join the House of Givenchy. The Maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it an undeniable icon and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era based on modernity and inclusivity. I am grateful to the LVMH group for trusting me with the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream. In these unprecedented times for the world, I want to send a message of hope, together with my community and colleagues, and intend to contribute towards positive change’.
Williams will be looking after all creative responsibilities, including both women’s and men’s collections, which were previously under British designer Clare Waight Keller.
Keller announced her departure from the label earlier this year in April after their three – year collaboration came to an end.
