ARAB HOME REMEDIES | Flu Fighters

As the weather cools, you could find yourself fighting a nasty cold. We’ve rounded up some Arab home remedies to see you through flu season – but always check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or suffer from a medical condition.

Tisane

Whether suffering from a cold, cramps or indigestion, tisane is a North African herbal remedy made out of loose lemon verbena leaves that is effective treating a multitude of ailments.

Anise

Anise oil contains thymol, terpineol and anethole, which are thought to help with cough and flu cases.

Garlic

Garlic may help fight off a common cold because it has antibacterial and antiviral properties. Flu suffers can eat raw garlic, cook it n their meals or take a supplement.

Honey

Honey has antimicrobial properties, which may allow it to fight some bacteria and viruses. A hot drink of honey, lemon and ginger is a popular flu-fighter across the Arab World.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin that is thought to decrease inflammation in the body. Add a pinch to your honey, lemon and ginger drink for a tasty remedy.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon and cloves contain potent antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties – both are great for making a hot, soothing drink.
