All The Arab Films Announced In The Venice International Film Festival Lineup

PARIS, France – This year, the 79th Venice International Film Festival will see an exciting lineup of Arab movies among other titles from the world.

The annual event will run from August 31 to September 10, 2022 with several movies from the region across different sections. In the Horizons category, Algerian – born filmmaker Rachid Hami brings his second feature, For My Country. The film was partly shot in Morocco and stars Karim Leklou. Alo appearing the Horizons category will be award – winning Syrian filmmaker Soudate Kaadan’s second feature fiction Nezouh, starring Syrian – Egyptian actor Kinda Alloush. In Arabic, the film’s title means the displacement of souls and people, and is set against the backdrop of dissension in Damascus.

Running in the section will be Hanging Gardens, a debut feature from Iraqi filmmaker Ahmed Yassin Al Daradji. The Iraqi – Palestine – UK co – production has already collected 5,000 euros, for its post – production from Final Cut, which is an initiative from last year’s festival contrived to support films from Africa and the Middle East.

The festival is set to open with Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel White Noise followed by several other Middle Eastern features. ‘It is a great honor to open the 79th Venice Film Festival with White Noise’, said Alberto Barbera, festival director. ‘Baumbach has made an original, ambitious and compelling pieces of art which plays with measures on multiple registers: dramatic, ironic, satirical. The result is a film that examines our obsessions, doubts, and fears as captured in the 1980s, yet with very clear references to contemporary reality’.
