Former Vogue Arabia cover star Huda Kattan is the latest UAE personality to be awarded a Dubai Star. The American-Iraqi beauty mogul is known for being at the helm of one of the world’s fastest-growing makeup brands Huda Beauty.
The Dubai Stars, which is the emirate’s version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, announced the news on social media, saying: “Congratulations to the influencer-turned-entrepreneur who built a beauty empire, @huda. Yuy are a #DubaiStar”.
Together with her sister, Mona and Alya Kattan, the entrepreneur also star in her very own Facebook Watch reality series, Huda Boss.
While being interviewed by her sister Mona for Vogue Arabia’s May 2019 issue, Kattan spoke of her brand Huda Beauty, saying, “We started the brand out of passion, with a vision. I’m not here for the money – I’m here for my own need to create”. Speaking to her sister in the interview Kattan had also shared the one thing that people didn’t know about them and the brand. “In the beginning, we struggled so much to make money. There were so many times we didn’t know if we were going to make it, if we even had a future. We didn’t have the opportunity to allow for failure. Some brands can have one product do well while one doesn’t. we couldn’t. if there was a failure, we would have gone bankrupt. In order to do the rose gold palette, I didn’t draw a salary for a few months. Nobody knew what was on the line for that launch. It did so well. It changed the industry”.
Earlier this year, Kattan ranked number one in the beauty section of 2019’s Instagram Rich List. In the list complied by Instagram scheduling tool Hooper HQ, Kattan with her Instagram account @hudabeauty outranked U.S. influencers James Charles and Jeffree Star, Duch makeup artist Nikki de Jager and British influencer Zoe Sugg.
Set to unveil in October, The Dubai Stars will feature on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. Kattan’s name is now added to the long list of successful local and international personalities who are being honored with a Dubai Star such as actors Priyanka Chopra, Margot Robbie, Ramie Malek, sportspersons Mo Shalah, Serena Williams, singers Nancy Ajram, Amr Diab, and more.
